2004 Best Single Family Home Under 2,000 SF - Bronze Award
We were pleased to be selected to build this retirement home in Underhill. The homeowners had purchased a beautiful 10-acre lot located high in the hills of Underhill and had selected a wonderful open plan for a single-level house. They also maximized the usefulness of their basement by making a partial walkout and expanded their living space to the outdoors by having us add a deck on the back of their home.
The home was situated on the lot to take advantage of the views up the valley to the northwest. The Homeowners also enjoy watching an abundance of wildlife in the meadow behind their house.
While being small and manageable in size, this house is big in features! The house remains warm and cozy through those long Underhill winters because of the radiant floor heating installed below the hardwood floors that flow throughout the house. The main living area is also heated by a thermostatically controlled gas fireplace that is installed in a beautiful stone surround in the family room. The Homeowners passion for cooking is quickly apparent by looking at the commercial grade appliances in their kitchen that is richly adorned with granite countertops. The master bedroom suite is conveniently located on the main floor and is complete with a beautifully trimmed master bath and a glass door leading to the back deck. A cherry staircase located off the entry foyer leads to an unfinished bonus room above the two car garage.
The exterior of the house has low maintenance vinyl siding that is accented by painted Miratec composite wood trim. The front elevation is also nicely appointed with cultured stone cladding on some of the walls and the back deck features low maintenance Trex decking.
In summary, this is a very thoughtful plan that is in a wonderful Vermont setting, which has been built with high quality finishes in a way that will allow the Angelinos to enjoy their retirement in comfort.
